A community leader who transitioned to councillor

Before being elected to council, I was already a very active member of the Fremantle Community.
Some key programs I ran include Friends of Hollis Park and Fremantle Heritage Events, namely Freo 1960.
In 2016 I was recognised as Fremantle’s Citizen of the Year for my ongoing work in our community.
Founding Friends of Hollis Park in 2014, we have united the community around the common goal of rehabilitating a degraded and unloved part of Fremantle. 7 years and 30,000 plants later, Hollis Park is now a community asset enjoyed by locals daily.

My love of Fremantle’s heritage and classic cars were combined in 2016 to bring 10,000 people to our West End. The event was a bigger success than anyone ever imagined, with one High Street local telling me their perspective “I was literally born in the West End and I’ve lived my whole life here. This is the busiest I’ve ever seen High Street!”
For my ongoing work in our community over a number of years, I was recognised in 2016 as Citizen of the Year.
